The following reasons why pho makes you feel better have no scientific basis.
1) “Sweat out the sickness”
Sitting over a steaming hot bowl of pho makes you sweat a bit. It also helps to clear a congested chest
2) “Flush the sickness out of your system”
Drinking lots of water (aka pho broth) flushes your system of the “sickness”
3) “Clear your sinuses”
Add extra chili peppers to make your nose run and clear out the mucus (ew, I know)
4) “Tastes great!”
I love pho. At a very young age I learned to appreciate and love food from other cultures (thanks mom and dad). Looking back, I am so fortunate to have been able to spend time with my dad at a hole in the wall Vietnamese restaurant eating pho!
So in short, yes, pho makes you feel better.
